Tesla Model 3 Gets New Look, New Features & New Price Tag

Tesla’s ever-popular Model 3 is one of the best-selling electric vehicles of all time. But far from resting on its laurels, Tesla has decided to refresh the model to bring it in line with competitors from the likes of BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz.

The revised Model 3 saloon, which is on sale now here in the UK, looks a little sleeker and sharper than the outgoing model. The eagle-eyed will immediately notice new headlight and taillight designs, new wheels and a raft of other styling tweaks. It’s not a major departure from the old model by any means, but is it a step in the right direction? We think so.

The design of the new car isn’t what’s been grabbing the headlines, though: it’s the changes Tesla has made to the interior (and the battery system) that buyers will really notice.

For starters, the range has been condensed into just two models: RWD and Long Range. There’s no Performance model available as yet - time will tell whether or not that makes an appearance here in Britain.

The entry-level RWD model now starts at £39,990, which is around £3,000 less than the outgoing car. With the smaller, 18-inch wheels fitted, it’s said to be able to travel up to 344 miles on a single charge (around 40 miles more than the old RWD model).

Not bad. But it’s the Long Range model that steals the show; for around £10,000 more, you’ll be able to enjoy up to 421 miles of range, which is better even than the pricier Model S. Performance is improved over the standard car as well - the Long Range model can hit 60 mph from a standstill in 4.2 seconds, beating the RWD model’s time by 1.6 seconds.

Inside, a larger (yes, even larger) touchscreen has been installed in place of the old unit. It now measures 15.4 inches in size, and is linked to an upgraded audio system with a whopping 17 speakers.

And despite the facelifted car’s lower price, Tesla hasn’t stopped there. It’s also given the Model 3 the rear touchscreen from the Model S and X, allowing rear seat passengers to join in the fun on long journeys.
