In our view, the myenergi Zappi is one of the best solar-compatible EV chargers on the market. Made in the UK, the Zappi is always a first choice, even if you don't yet have solar PV. Zappi from myenergi is the next generation in EV vehicle charging. Designed to charge efficiently with mobile app control It also is capable of utilising solar PV or wind generation towards charging.  

This is the first electric charger of its kind. This charger is very user friendly and efficient for normal day-to-day charging. This smart-charger has in-built Wi-Fi connectivity and is compatible with all plug-in vehicles.  

A closer look

The socket location is on the front allowing the Zappi to fit almost anywhere without affecting its usability. Status light

The Zappi displays a status light in the lightning volt showing what charge mode is in operation. This helps the user identify if the vehicle is charging, fully charged or on a selected mode. The buttons on the interface of the Zappi let you easily change the charging mode and view settings on the charger. Electric vehicle charging really has never been easier than with the myenergi Zappi, in our opinion one of the most simplistic EV chargers around.

Eco ± mode

Its 'eco±' function prioritises all generated energy and directs it straight to charge your EV. The 'eco' function lets your vehicle charge at a minimum of 1.4kWh using surplus generated energy, then tops up from the mains grid energy when surplus is lower. Utilising energy to charge your EV from battery storage helps boost efficiency, effectively charging for free!

Effecient charging schedules

The Zappi offers charging schedules that can be set through the myenergi app, this allows charging on set times and lower energy charging windows helping save you money. The schedules can be fully customised and will even show charging session cost for peak/ off-peak energy usage rates.

Smart connectivity WiFI built in

The Zappi 2.1 incorporates Wi-Fi built in that allows connectivity for over the air updates to your charger. This also lets you access the myenergi app letting you see the features and information for your charger.

Built in earthing protection

No earth electrode required, this saves time and costs as the myenergi Zappi 2.1 has its own in-built earthing protection included.

Durable IP65 protection

This charger is designed to withstand all weather conditions and its hard casing design will also withstand minor impacts easily.

- fast – vehicle charged at maximum capacity.

Other features

The simple scheduling feature makes it easy to set charging times. The app also displays data clearly, whether that be for solar energy/ battery storage used to charge, or purely EV charging sessions. There are a range of products from myenergi that you can incorporate into your home to aid efficiency. The myenergi Eddi for example, measures what’s being generated from your home's solar or wind generation and smartly diverts it to heat your water.

Display

The LCD backlit display screen on the Zappi charger shows a great range of information relevant to charging your EV. Firstly, it shows the charging rate flowing into your electric vehicle, this is shown in kW (kilowatts). When set up to measure grid usage and also solar energy, this is also clearly displayed to show where the power is coming from.

This is shown by the sunshine icon, which presents figures for solar output usage, and the grid icon, which shows incoming power usage all in kW. You may also select the individual charging modes eco±, eco, fast, shown on the display by pressing the up and down arrows on the charger.

The charging status LED is also an added feature, showing which mode the EV charger is in. The charger shows pink (when connected). White (while in a charging session). Yellow (when charging on grid and solar/battery power), and blue (when charging has completed). The myenergi Zappi unit is available in black or white and can be tethered (with a Type 1 or 2 connection 6.5m cable) or untethered.
